ANIMATION STILLS
An animation in progress. My theme revolves around the ‘7 Deadly Sins’. I have chosen three of the seven for this project where I can delve deeper into the meanings of each Gluttony, Greed and Pride. I have created ‘Worlds’ where each thrive in their sinful acts, surrounding and enticing any who enter to take part in the acts themselves.

  • My theme revolves around the ‘7 Deadly Sins’. I have chosen three of the seven for this project where I can delve deeper into the meanings of each Gluttony, Greed and Pride. I have created ‘Worlds’ where each thrive in their sinful acts, surrounding and enticing any who enter to take part in the acts themselves.

Details and the thinking behind each landscape can be found below each image.  This is a work in progress and could change slightly from the images shown so far.  It makes up the main scenes in an animation which I am currently working on in University.
  • This World is filled with food, highlighting the sin’s obsessive desire with food and uncontrollable urge to over-indulge on these things. Greed is a sin of ‘excess’ which is why every part of the landscape is made up of food, from the cress grass forests to the chilli trees and cupcake mountains. It shows how someone taking part in this sin can become surrounded by the urge and that their thoughts are encased in the thought of food. Here it is difficult to escape the sin and the want of pleasure from food.
  • Greed is a World with a desert like landscape, dry, alone and desolate, far away from the realms of reality. Greed is also a sin of ‘excess’, a deadly desire to obtain more of something than we actually need. This landscape follows one of the rules of Greed, the Greed of Power. This kind of sin relates to materialism and the need to have everything, to show off and gain Power from the act. The landscape shows the materialistic goods piled up, like a rubbish heap. This represents the desire to want more than we need. The more we have, the less important some of the items become, rendering materialism in its most sinful form.
  • Pride is seen as the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and the one which spawned the other six. Pride encases the need to be more important and more attractive than anyone else. It refuses to acknowledge the good of others through self-delusion and ‘excessive love of self’. Pride links with vanity here and rejects any truth about who we really are in people’s eyes. We feel the need when taken over with Pride, to create illusions of who we want to be and what we believe in. The World of Pride is very dark and weary. There are evil eyes watching from all over, even from behind the mist, judging. This represents how we are perceived by others. The mist shows that there is no clear path through the watching eyes. It shows that Pride cannot escape the judgement of others and must create even bigger illusions if they wish to impress them.
